Officer Injured In Crash Near Love Field - Dallas, TX
A Dallas police motorcycle officer is recovering after an accident on rain-soaked roads Monday night.

Police said the officer collided with another officer while leaving Dallas Love Field after Air Force One departed.

One officer was injured and taken to Parkland Hospital. The other officer was not injured.

New Orleans Police Department Selects Infokall For Mobile Citation Solutions - Santa Ana, CA
Infokall announced today that it has been selected by the New Orleans Police Department to provide mobile applications for moving citations that will allow its motorcycle and patrol officers to dramatically improve the speed and accuracy of the citation process.

New Orleans will become one of the first cities in the nation to deploy a single solution on both handheld devices and mobile data computers to streamline the issuance of citations and maximize police productivity. ...Columbus is a member of the motorcycle unit and was stationed at the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Boylston Street. When his unit attempted to move toward Kenmore Square to disperse crowds gathering there, Columbus said the streets were flooded with people, mainly college students, who were jumping on cars, blocking traffic, and creating mayhem. New State Police officer, new bike here - Aolmstead, NM
...McDonald will also be the only State Police officer in Socorro who will be riding an 1150 BMW motorcycle as part of the State Police motor team.

There are currently 16 motorcycles being used by State Police. Motorcycles were reintroduced into the police force in 2002 after a 55-year absence.

McDonald said the motorcycles were being reintroduced because they are easier to maneuver in traffic. He said the bike in Socorro would be used mostly for traffic stops and public events, such as parades....     Read the full story.

Rochester officer involved in motorcycle crash: 'I was going home on lunch break' - Rochester, NH
An officer reprimanded recently for crashing a police motorcycle about a half-mile into Somersworth while on duty is saying he was simply on his lunch break and that the whole incident has been "blown out of proportion".

A city of Reno investigation into whether property owners were negligent and contributed to the fatal crash of a motorcycle officer two years ago was critical evidence, but wasn’t made available to anyone, a lawyer argued Thursday.

First female motorcycle officer certified - Sarasota, FL
The city of Sarasota Police Department has certified its first female as a motorcycle traffic unit officer.

Officer Kim Stroud, currently a member of the SPD traffic unit, received her certification on Oct. 29 in a ceremony at the Venice Airport Driving Range.

Stroud graduated from the Institute of Police Technology and Management Motorcycle School. She is the first female traffic motor officer in the 100-year history of the SPD. ...     Read the full story.

Driver rescued after plunge - Agoura Hills, CA
An alert motorcycle officer who noticed unusual skid marks along Kanan Dume Road early Friday discovered a seriously injured motorist whose pickup truck had gone over the side the night before, officials said.

"I saw the skid marks at about 10:15 a.m. and thought they looked kind of fresh. There were no signs of a tow truck or footprints," said Officer Kevin James of the California Highway Patrol's West Valley office.

FBI: 132 Officers Killed In Line Of Duty In U.S. Last Year - Los Angeles, CA
...Eighty other law enforcement officers, including three locally, were accidentally killed last year, the report shows.

A Buena Park, Calif., officer died in a motorcycle accident, a Los Angeles officer was killed in an auto crash and a Long Beach, Calif., officer died in a fall, according to the report.

Opelousas officer among nation's best - Opelousas, LA
Lt. Wells Cornette of the Opelousas Police Department is one of the best motorcycle patrol officers in the nation - and he has a plaque to prove it.

Cornette recently finished fourth in an international driving competition that attracted more than 150 officers from throughout the nation and Canada.

He won the distinction in the Harley Davidson Road King division.

"That's the most competitive division," Cornette said. "It is pretty much the standard police motorcycle."

Many shocked by attack, but school day goes on as usual - Jersey City, NJ

Two police officers hospitalized after wreck - Cincinnati, OH
Two Lexington police officers were hospitalized after they struck a car while patrolling outside the University of Kentucky football game today. Officer Thad Sullivan and officer John Ball were taken to the University of Kentucky Medical Center with serious injuries. A hospital spokeswoman says Sullivan remained hospitalized tonight in serious condition and Ball was hospitalized in good condition. Lexington police say the two were patrolling on motorcycles on Tates Creek Road when a Volkswagen Jetta driven by 59-year-old Gloria Thomas of Lexington, pulled in front of them. Police say Sullivan hit the car between the driver's side doors, then Thomas hit Ball's motorcycle, throwing him off the motorcycle and onto the median. Pantego officers place in motorcycle skills championship - Pantego, TX
Three Pantego police officers won top honors last weekend at the 2004 Gulf Coast Police Motorcycle Skills Championship in Baton Rouge, La.

Cpl. Freddie Alexander, officer Barry Reeves and officer Travis Waybourn of the Police Department's Motor Division were among 137 competitors from departments across the country and Canada.

Reeves placed first and Alexander placed fourth in the event's Kawasaki Division. Reeves and Waybourn placed second and third in the Kawasaki Division's Partner Ride.

"Despite being a relatively small agency and new Motor Division, they did very well against much larger, established teams. It's really great for Pantego," Police Chief Jon Coulter said....     Read the full story.

Ex-officer awarded back pay - Jackson, MS
...The U.S. Justice Department brought the federal charges against Simmons in September after he filed for back pay.

Catchings, currently a Jackson motorcycle officer, has been granted immunity and has agreed to testify against Simmons in the federal trial, something he did not do in the state trial.

Sunrise officer hurt in hit-and-run crash - Sunrise, FL
A Sunrise motorcycle police officer was injured Sunday in a hit-and-run accident at Sunrise Boulevard and 118th Street.

Officer William Gordon was riding his motorcycle when the accident occurred about 5:40 p.m., according to the Plantation and Sunrise police departments.

Sgt. Craig Stalker of the Plantation Police Department said Gordon was traveling eastbound on Sunrise Boulevard when he was sideswiped by another vehicle traveling in the same direction. For many, helping is like riding bike - Garland, TX
..."A lot of Garland folks receive help from the Shriners' and Scottish Rite hospitals," said Motor Cops co-founder Steve Dye, assistant chief of the Garland Police Department. "When I was a motorcycle officer, I felt like we were out there making negative contacts writing people tickets. I thought this would be a good way to show that there was a more positive side."

He hopes to see people lining the route for the third annual parade.

Jerry Patterson, director of the Dallas Texas Harley Owners Group, also helped found Motor Cops for Kids. His organization hosts fund-raisers throughout the year.

Driver robbed on freeway - Fontana, CA

...The Rancho Cucamonga man was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 near the Sierra Avenue offramp about 2:30 p.m. when his restored 1950 pickup broke down. He pulled to the shoulder and used his cell phone to call a tow truck, Megenney said.

As he was waiting inside his pickup, a car pulled over in front of him. Two men got out, approached Lineburger's pickup, threatened him with a knife and took his wallet and cell phone before driving away, Megenney said.

Another car stopped minutes later, and Lineburger borrowed a cell phone to call police with a description of the vehicle.

A Fontana motorcycle officer looking for the car on the eastbound I-10 spotted it near the I-10 interchange with Interstate 215 - just as his motorcycle's rear tire went flat. Motorcycle officer nearly run over - Salinas, CA
...A Salinas motorcycle officer was responding to a crash at 2:41 p.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of Kenneth Avenue. As he got to the scene, one of the vehicles involved in the accident was pulling away, police reported.

The officer chased the car west on Market Street until it turned onto Second Avenue and parked. After the officer pulled up behind the car, the driver backed up toward the motorcycle, police said. Hundreds mourn N.J. soldier - Burlington City, NJ

City Council members urge review of LAX police conduct - Los Angeles, CA
...One person that KCBS identified as a longtime airport employee, whose face was obscured and voice altered, said he often sees airport police hanging out in the Bradley Terminal doing nothing.

LAX is considered to be California's top terrorist target. The 300-officer airport police department is supplemented by about 50 LAPD officers who perform motorcycle patrol duties, make arrests and investigate crimes.

Brownsville police run speed traps - Brownsville, TX

Speed trap: a term the Brownsville Police Department should be used to. I have noticed that Monday through Friday, especially during the hours of 11:30 a.m. and noon, the motorcycle police officers gather themselves in a group of three and find an area of high vehicle volume and set up their speed trap.

Recently I drove on Paredes Line Road from the cemetery toward the H-E-B store that borders Boca Chica and Paredes Line Road. There is a five- or six-foot wooden fence that separates the cemetery property line from the H-E-B property line. Newton motorcycle cop injured - Newton, MA
Newton police officer manning a radar gun on Elliot Street was injured last night when he was knocked off his motorcycle by a white Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by a Dorchester resident.

As holiday shoppers headed out in droves to search for bargains Friday morning, police were out looking for speeding and aggressive driving.

From 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Ocala Police Department's five motorcycle officers cased State Road 200, starting at West Marion Community Hospital and working back east toward Pine Avenue.

Driver Runs Red Light; Two Motorcycle Officers Hurt - Newport Beach, CA
Two Newport Beach, Calif., motorcycle officers were traveling northbound on Jamboree Road at Campus Drive in Irvine, Calif., on Monday when a car ran a red light and made a left turn in front of them.

Both motorcycles struck the car. One officer was seriously hurt with injuries to the leg and was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana. The other officer suffered moderate injuries, and he, too, was hospitalized.

The driver was taken into custody facing several charges.     Read the full story.

Police 'taxi' reminder not to drink and drive - Glendale, AZ
...The car is the brainchild of Officer Max Merritt, a Glendale motorcycle cop. He said he came up with the idea during a discussion with fellow officers on new ways to warn motorists of the dangers of drinking and driving.

Caravan escorts soldier's remains - Waterbury, CT
...The family gathered Monday afternoon at the Bergin Funeral Home on East Main Street where six city police motorcycles, a squad car and a representative of the Army waited to escort them to collect Nolan's remains.

Police kept a modest pace along interstates 84 and 91 on the way to the airport, with the motorcycles moving in an out of traffic to clear the way for the convoy to change lanes. The 44-mile trip to the airport took an hour.

"It's an honor. One we'd rather not have," said one motorcycle officer wearing a face mask to protect him from the cold. "But if we have to do it, we should do it right." ...     Read the full story.

Newport Officer Listed as Serious: One of two policemen hurt when a vehicle turned in front of them Sunday has a leg injury. - Newport Beach, CA
A Newport Beach motorcycle officer remained hospitalized in serious condition Monday, a day after he and another officer were injured when a driver turned left against a red light and hit them, authorities said.

Officer Matthew Chmura, 34, who has been with the department four years, was at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana in intensive care with a leg injury, said Lt. John Klein, a Newport Beach police spokesman....     Read the full story.

Shoplifting At Local Costco Leads To Police Shooting - Fairfield, CA
Police are searching for whomever tried to run down three employees of the Costco, and may have tried to shoot a California Highway Patrol officer, NBC11's Ethan Harp reported.

It started with a man who tried to shoplift a $900 piece of electronics, but police said he's now wanted for far more serious crimes.

Officer injured by truck - Newton, MA
...The officer was manning a radar gun on Elliot Street last Monday at 5:40 p.m., and was about to pull over a speeding vehicle when he was hit by the truck as it pulled out from Cottage Street.

The officer, who remains unidentified, fell off the motorcycle, into a guardrail, injuring his arm, shoulder, hip and ankle. Sargeant Kenneth Dangelo said last week that the officer had been released from the hospital....     Read the full story.
