Motorcycles have been an integral part of the Tulsa Police Department since 1923. The Motorcycle Unit's goal is to ensure safety on the streets of Tulsa for the motoring public through enforcement of the traffic laws and education.

The 14 officers and two supervisors issued more than 25,000 citations per year for the last four years. Additionally, the Unit presents more than 2 dozen driver safety programs to community groups throughout the year. The Unit's efforts routinely result in accolades from the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office through the annual Tulsa Area Safe Kids Coalition Buckledown Awards, the Tulsa Public Schools Safety Director's Office, and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol during Operation Partnership.

The Unit currently rides Kawasaki KZ1000 motorcycles. Hand held and state of the art moving radar units enable the officers to efficiently perform their duties. Helmets are replaced at regular intervals to take advantage of the latest protection technology available. The Unit trains once a month at various sites around the city. High speed training at a nearby motor racing track hones the Unit's ability to perform in the most extreme situations.
