AGENCIES. LAWTON POLICE DEPARTMENT MOTORCYCLE UNIT, OK. By Master Officer Don Pestun  The City of Lawton,Oklahoma
includes the population of Ft. Sill military base. Lawton used motors for
patrol in the 40's, again in the late 70's and early 80's. After 10 plus
years without motors, the city purchased 4 Harley-Davidson Road Kings in
2000.Four officers were sent to the Southwestern University Traffic Institute training course put on in Oklahoma City in conjuction with Harley-Davidson in November of 1999. Once the training was complete, we were put on the motors as soon as they arrived. There are 2 motors on each dayshift. We ride them year round and use them for traffic enforcement and accident investigations as the motors were integrated into the traffic division. The public response to the bikes has been great. We showcase all 4 at parades and public events. A little more information is in the Contributor Gallery, page 5 and page 6.
